The start/end times are the same for all students. Breakfast will begin at 7:50 AM with the tardy bell ringing to begin instruction at 8:20 AM. Dismissal will be 2:34 PM. for all grade levels. What grades does East Bay K-8 serve?

East Bay K-8 serves all grades, ESE Pre-K through eighth grade.

Who is the principal?

Veteran principal, Beth Mosley transitioned from principal at Holley-Navarre Intermediate School to East Bay K-8 on March 1, 2021.

In 2003, Mrs. Mosley received her bachelor's degree in middle school mathematics from the University of West Florida. She taught middle school mathematics then served as Dean of Students at Woodlawn Beach Middle School. After earning her master’s degree in Educational Leadership through UWF in 2010, she entered administration as the assistant principal at S.S. Dixon Intermediate School. She then transferred to Holley-Navarre Intermediate School. In 2014, she served as assistant principal at HNIS than was promoted to principal in April 2015.

With her experience and expertise at both the elementary and middle school levels, Mrs. Mosley was recommended by Dr. Barber and School Board approved to serve as principal of the first K-8 school in Santa Rosa County.

Do K-8 students ride together on the bus?

Yes. Transportation bus routes are not developed until the summer of each school year. Once developed, final bus routes will be communicated to parents. Transportation staff will be available during East Bay’s Teacher Meet-and-Greet days, prior to the first day of school.

What academic programs/ESE services/extended day/advanced programs are offered at East Bay K-8?

Aligned with the district’s STEAM initiative, all classrooms will foster a learning environment which promote four Cs: communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking.

With respect to Special Education services, Santa Rosa County School District serves all students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment and in accordance with student IEP or 504 plans. In addition to ESE services provided in the general education setting, East Bay K-8 provides an elementary and middle grades CBSA Orthopedically Impaired self-contained classroom. Students in the CBSA OI classroom are served in this setting due to their IEP needs with approval from ESE district staff. East Bay also hosts two ESE Pre-K classrooms. Students are assigned to these classrooms through the district ESE Pre-K department.

Gifted services for K-8 are provided. Elementary students receive gifted services once a week with a full day pull-out program of gifted instruction by a gifted endorsed teacher. Middle school students have the opportunity to receive gifted services through a gifted elective class. This 6-8 elective class is taught by a gifted endorsed teacher and has a focus on STEAM, building the four Cs: communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking, and enhancing 6-8 science standards. Advanced students also have the opportunity to excel in advanced core ELA, Math, Science, and elective classes.

Basic class information - East Bay K-8 will offer art, music, physical education, and recess for all elementary students. Middle school students will have four core subject classes: ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, with two elective classes. Some students may need intensive reading or math classes based on academic data. Middle school students are required to take PE at least one semester, all three years. East Bay K-8 will offer art, chorus, and band at the middle school level. Middle school CTE elective courses include: Entrepreneurship for Small Business & Microsoft Digital Tools (one combined class offered to seventh and eighth grade students).

How is the School Advisory Council (SAC) and Parent Support Team formed?

The SAC consists of staff, parents, and community stakeholders (a majority of non-school employees). SAC nomination forms for position vacancies are electronically posted and paper-based forms are sent home in student first day folders. A timeline for nomination submissions and voting is communicated. The SAC meet quarterly to discuss and gather input on upcoming school events, review student performance data, approve School Improvement Plan goals, and review the SAC and school-based budgets. East Bay strives to effectively communicate and be transparent with our stakeholders to continuously focus on strong student growth and performance.

What types of clubs or extracurricular activities are available?

Clubs/activities will develop through collaboration with students, parents, and staff. Currently, we have a before school Chess Club, Fishing Club, and Junior Optimist Club. A staff sponsor is required to facilitate a club. There is not guarantee on hosting a specific club from year-to-year.

Is there a character development program at East Bay?

East Bay K-8 utilizes Project Wisdom (projectwisdom.com), a district supported program that encourages reflection and helps build character and social-emotional competencies. This program is implemented through our morning ITV program with support from our guidance department.

East Bay is a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) school. We select monthly character traits based on our L.E.A.D.S. values (Leadership, Equity, Accountability, Discovery, Service) to support and grow our future leaders! Students will have opportunities to be recognized for their efforts and demonstration of these traits. Students K-8 have the opportunity to be selected as an Eagle of the Month. Students also earn blue PBIS wristbands that can be turned in daily for student recognition.

Each morning on ITV, our student anchors reinforce the East Bay value of the month to promote strong character development across campus.

Are students allowed to bring cell phones/electronic devices to school? Cellular Phones/Wireless Communication Devices

A student may bring a mobile device to school. The mobile device shall be in silent mode during school hours so noises from the device will not disrupt the instructional environment. Students may use their mobile device at any time during NON-INSTRUCTIONAL time unless instructed specifically not to do so by a member of the school staff. During INSTRUCTIONAL time, a student may use their mobile device (which includes, but is not limited to, cell phones, watches with texting/picture/communication capabilities, tablets) with permission from the teacher/instructor in charge. Parents who need to reach their child (or vice versa) should communicate via the front office if an emergency arises. A student may use a mobile device on a school bus as directed by the official in charge (bus driver, teacher). Failure to follow instructions from the school official in charge may result in a discipline referral. Continued use of a mobile device after being instructed by a school official not to do so may result in disciplinary action. Ear buds may be used with teacher permission; only one earbud may be worn during class change or other unstructured times.  No headphones may be used unless medically or administratively approved.   All use of technology resources should be consistent with the District’s “Acceptable Use Policy” that all students and their parents have signed and acknowledged. All users should be aware that the inappropriate use of technology resources could also be a violation of local, state and federal laws.

Will students receive hard copy textbooks or E-Books?

Our students will have traditional textbooks in addition to online learning resources. East Bay K-8 will have all county approved curriculum available to utilize when school begins. Students will be given access to electronic versions of their textbooks when available. A classroom set of textbooks is also provided for student use at school.

What resources will be available in the media center?

The media center will have a collection of both traditional books and eBooks. Accelerated Reader, AR, will be available for students in first through fifth grade. There will be a full-time librarian to encourage a love for reading and meet the reading needs for all students, K-8.
